about
Introducing the theme of community empowerment that unifies the 'We Have Each Other' EP, ‘Stand Strong’ highlights those throughout history who have created movements in the face of adversity, encouraging listeners to stand strong with their communities in the present day.
Transmitting a poignant message of solidarity at a time of global turbulence, Sheffield wordsmith Franz Von channels the powerful ensemble arrangement into a mixture of freewheeling hip-hop flows and spoken word, building into an explosive baritone sax solo from saxophonist Hannah-Mae Birtwell.
On the track, Franz shares: “Stand Strong celebrates our ability to look within and around us to find courage. It highlights our perseverance, determination and strengths in facing adversity, encouraging everyone to recognise these strengths and use them to better themselves and the people around them.”
lyrics
Raise up the decibels
Escape with it
wish you well
Coins in a wishing well
embracing in this inner realm
Straight down the rabbit hole universe parallel
Play riddim spin em' slow
swing around the carousel
Merry go round can't be bound in this living hell
Telling these stories of woe
hope you listen well
Understand
link up with Alice out in wonderland
No underhanded malice just the people living off the land
Young forever like it's Neverland Peter Pan
Peter piper pick the pepper paid the piper overstand
Holding on I'm living in it
like its summer jam
Singalong come and dance
Simmer in the summer sands,
Sunset silhouettes sounds of solace songs
Summer solstice smoke the sess
so my soul enhance
So we slowly dance,
Romancing holding hands,
Stole the moment
If only hoping is all we can.
Burdened on this journey
Determined to keep hurdling,
Turning the tides when its turbulent,
Non compliant non subservient,
Nah bow down to babylon system
thats affirmative,
Instinctive
non conformist,
Freedom fighter fatherless,
Lost like Martin Luther Malcolm X,
Mansa Musa Kings gone to rest,
Stand strong bang chest like King kong,
Sing songs like fela kuti,
For the culture,
For the freedom illusive,
So my people don't loose grip
In this illusion of life
living loosely,
More than survival
Its thriving its boujee,
It's usually
These are the times
When the minds on a rise
Eyes on the prize
Looking beautifully
